faces to the wind

fall semester started this week. it's been overwhelming and exhausting, yet incredibly entertaining. it's so, so incredibly texan. not in a hip, austin-loving way though--in a farm/cows/boots/trucks/y'all sort of way. today i overheard a conversation between what i'm assuming were agriculture students [a popular west texas major, right up there with crop science and wind energy]. i started eavesdropping when i heard one of the boys venting about how one of their teachers "made" them learn to use "excel and sh*t". after commiserating, his friend then brought up their successful mutual friend who had recently graduated and made it big--returning to their hometown and buying lots of land. sometimes i'm not sure what world i'm in.
